LHC delayed – again

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has been delayed yet again, following reports that it may not even open until 2010 at the earliest.

The collider, which suffered damage just nine days after opening back in September, caused worldwide panic with claims it could ‘create a black hole’ which could suck us all in. However this obviously did not turn out to be the case – not yet anyway.

CERN, which operates the LHC has laid out two possible plans to get the LHC back up and running, with Plan A to get it running late next year and Plan B in early 2010. CERN has chosen Plan A, so it looks like it’ll be up and running at this stage late next year.

CERN had previously hoped to have it running by June next year, however this is now obviously not going to happen.

Microsoft, Yahoo in talks about search division

According to a report by the Times of London earlier last week, Microsoft and Yahoo could be looking at a new search deal, in an effort to expand Microsoft’s online search presence, whilst keeping Yahoo alive.

The report, which has not yet been confirmed by either Microsoft or Yahoo, is rumoured to have priced the Yahoo! search business at US$20 billion, with both companies still in early stages of negotiations.

Steve Ballmer has commented that Microsoft has moved on from buying out all of Yahoo!, but has said that the search division would still be an interesting purchase.
